OBITUARY TORSTEN GORDON STAHLBRAND Born August 14, 1919. Died in his ninetieth year on October 14, 2008. Devoted and loving husband to Mary (Stasiuk) for fifty-four happy and eventful years. Cherished by his daughters Lori and Sandi, sons-in-law Wayne and Graham, and grand-daughters Anika and Jaime. Also loved by the Semeniuk and Robertson families, who meant so much to him. A Canadian success story, Gordon was born in Malmo, Sweden and emigrated to Montreal with his family at the age of eight. He attended McGill University on a WWII veterans scholarship, completed a Masters of Education at the University of Vermont, and became a gifted teacher and counsellor. He was a man ahead of his time, from his active role in raising his children, to his interest in healthy food and the environment. Gordon was known as a kind and gentle man with a deep sense of social justice and a ready laugh. He loved nature and spent many happy days gardening and camping with his family. He also loved to dance, and he and Mary could waltz, jitterbug and square dance with the best. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at the Toronto East General Hospital and the staff and residents of the St. Clair OConnor Community for all their support. Gordon will be remembered with deep affection. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday October 19, 2008 at the St. Clair O'Connor Community. He will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Clair O'Connor Community would be appreciated.
