Rosemount High School - Dedication Page

In Memory of....

Nancy Svendsen - 1969 Grad

I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT NANCY HAD PASSED AWAY. I MET NANCY AT BEACON HILL SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERT, WHEN MY SON WAS ATTENDING BEACON HILL, IT WAS AT LEAST FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. NANCY WAS VISITING RELATIVES FOR CHRISTMAS, THE LAST TIME I SAW HER BEFORE THAT WAS WHEN WE WERE BOTH ATTENDING ROSEMOUNT HIGH. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES TO HER FAMILY.

DEBBIE LOWE - FRIEND - NESBITT SCHOOL

I found out a couple of years ago that Nancy passed away. Nancy and I were inseperable throughout high school and beyond. I cannot possibly express the lonliness I felt when I found out she was no longer amoung us. I was also close to her family and I would love to hear from any of them. So Mrs. Svendsen, Helen, Ralph, Bruce or Dick, if you are out there, my sincerest condolences and please contact me at lbrodie@bentall.com. I have a very interesting story I would like to tell you all! And Nancy, if you're listening, I think about you often and miss you terribly.

While I only attended Rosemount for grades 8 & 9, those of you who remember Nancy will remember that we were the "bestest" of friends. Wherever Nancy was, I was! We forged a friendship that I have used as a guage to measure all friendships since, and none have ever seemed to measure up. Even though I moved to NDG at the end of the school year in '67, we remained close. In fact, I can't tell you how many days I would skip school and travel all the way to Rosemount just to hang out! Our friendship stayed very close way beyond High School, at which point I left the province, and slowly we drifted apart. But I always knew she was out there and I was sure that some day our paths would cross and we would take up right where we left off. Quite a number of years later, I got this sudden desire to find her. And I tried so hard. I called every Svendsen in the phone books of Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver - to no end. I tried the Internet and got nowhere! It was almost like an obsession with me. But alas, I was not successful and after spending months trying to find her I gave up.

Some years later I stumbled across the Rosemount High site and while I couldn't find any contact information for Nancy I did find contact information for a mutual friend, Jimmy Sadler. I knew if anyone knew where she was, he would, so I contacted him. That's when I found out that Nancy had passed away. And I was devistated! In my heart at that point in time, she was still my "best friend" Somehow, I know, in my knower, that the reason I suddenly got a burning desire to contact Nancy after so many years is because she was coming to the end of her journey and she was reaching out to find me.

Nance', I am so, so sorry I didn't find you in time. Suffice to say I think about you often, and still miss you lots. I know your dream was to become a ballet dancer, until an injured knee ended that dream. I also know that wherever you are, your knee is fine now and you're "en point" enjoying your dream to the fullest.

The lesson to learn here is never give up a friend, even if you're sure that some day your paths will cross again. Sometimes, life doesn't give you that time.

In closing, I would love to contact any of Nancy's siblings. I have stories I would like to share with them and I need to know how Nancy's life worked out. I know she had children, do they look like her? Would they like to hear stories of their mother from her High School days? Do they share any of her dreams? So Helen, Ralph, Bruce or Dick, if you are out there reading this please contact me at tornado2@sympatico.ca.
