Rosemount High School - Dedication Page

In Memory of....

Joan Weston - 1968 Grad

In the early 70's, a night club burned down in downtown Montreal on Union Street.  It was criminally set by 2 who were refused entry to the club.  They came back later with a gasoline tank, doused the front stairs and up it went.  I was actually working that night right across the street when it happened.  I don't remember the exact number, but approximately 30-40 people were killed that night.  It was one of the worst fires in Canadian history.  I read days later that she was among the dead.  The paper listed all the fatalities and where they were from.  I remember it said she was from Rosemount...12th Avenue, and I believe she was there with some friends (I assume they perished too) doing some Friday night celebrating.

George Griffiths - Classmate

I was so sad to hear that Joan is no longer with us.  When I was planning to go to "Rosemount High School's 50th Reunion", I was hoping to see Joan.   She wasn't there.   I only heard about Joan's tragic death in July 2002 when George Griffiths emailed me the news.  I remember Joan from Drummond School.  I remember that life was difficult at times for Joan and I pray that she is in a better place............Joan was a very special person to me.  A rose for a rose.
